Best options for last min holiday for singles

I have almost a fortnight off end June - early July. Parents and I did plan many things to do that time in the UK - days out etc. Then 3 weeks ago, Mum broke her hip and downstairs bound.
They did offer putting money towards a last min break of 4-7 nights. Don't mind if its a coach tour holiday of one or more hotels or a single centre holiday. That money would have been spent on the days out
Not fussed where I want to go, but want to stay clear of Benidorm, Playa das Americas, Magaluf, Faliraki and other resorts like this. Never been away on my own before. But I heard people that have traveled abroad on their own finding their hotel room is a pokey room next to the lifts and they cannot sleep because of the lifts going up/down.
If I am flying out - needs to be EMA or Brum Airport.
I prefer bed and breakfast as some people I know go all inclusive and been to places where there is little or no local cuisine in the hotel.

you've heard?
Pre-kids, I used to travel solo loads, I booked my flights and hotel separately, and that way I knew exactly what I was getting, and I always (then and now) email or contact the hotel before I arrive to ask for a quiet room etc. I don't honestly think I've ever seen a single room in any of the holiday hotels I've stayed at, never mind be allocated one.
Start with skyscanner to see what resort airports etc you can get to for your dates from East Mids or Bham airports, and then work from there to find the destination and hotel of your choice on various holiday hotel websites ie travelrepublic, hotels.com, trivago, hotelscombined, etc etc
If you can do 7 nights you might find a bargain package on holidayhypermarket or Olympic holidays too.
oh - and if you think you might have trouble sleeping for any reason, pack some earplugs (I need to put those on my shopping list for next month).0 -
Might just be me, but I don't care about the size of my room so long as it's got a comfy bed to crash in at night, but then again I'm not your bog standard person! Loud is a bit of a problem sometimes, but if you worried too much about that it would put you off going anywhere - I usually just get on with falling asleep anyway, but I have experience in sleeping in noisy environments.
Check where your local low cost airlines fly to & scout around the area for "smaller" resorts surrounding them. Sure you'll sacrifice a little in terms of amenities but you'll often find all the good stuff (weather, beaches, food) without so much of the bad! Little example, I just did Majorca last week, Cala Mayor, far enough away that you're not in the mix of things, but close enough that I could go into Magaluf/Santa Ponsa should the mood take me. Decent enough crowd of people in the hotel, cracking wee beach a 10 minute walk away & excellent bus routes into Palma & down to Magaluf end of things. (Cheap as chips as well, €1.50 single on one of the buses - that's cheaper than it costs me to get to my local town centre!)
Half of traveling solo is about your bottle, if you've got the guts to do it the world's your (slightly more expensive) oyster - easy for me to say as a guy though I do understand that. Hell I even did New York solo & had things in life been differen't I dare say I'd have checked off Japan by now as well.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -
Hi OP,
Do you have a budget in mind? That would define more so where you are able to go to - Do you prefer a city break, or is a beach a definite? How many hours flight would you like to do (the canaries for example are around 4 hours away - there are some amazing places with traditional food, a world away from the chav heaven of Playa de las americas!)
You say you might like a multi centre holiday; perhaps the south coast of spain (costa del sol - stay away from Marbella and you're there!). You have Malaga, Nerja (very spanish!), fuengirola and benalmedina within half an hour of each other so easy enough to move around. Taxis are fairly cheap as well. I've also done a lovely spa break just outside of Albir, near Benidorm but a completely different town. Beach was amazing, hotel was gorgeous and truly spanish.
Most places will cater to single travellers; you will probably have a normal double or twin room as single travellers aren't common, and you'll usually have to pay an under occupation supplement (not that much from my experiences).
Might also be worth looking at Greece (cheap, flights are around 3 hours, so much culture - just got back from Zante where you can have a day trip to Athens and mount olympus, kefalonia and a couple of other places).
I think it will rest on budget, as that will restrict where you can go.0 -
For a single holiday I would always go DIY as the package operators are mostly set up for couple and families.
In the past, I've had good flight + hotel deals from BA and Easyjet.
Depends on whether you want a beach holiday or a city break. I'd look at Barcelona for the best of both worlds. It's not the cheapest option but it has the beach and also lots to do during the day apart from sunbathing and drinking.
Definitely don't go AI. Most of the fun of being on holiday by yourself is exploring the local bars.0
