O/S Daily Thread Friday 13th June 2014

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

• Good morning everyone :)

TGIF .... even if it is Friday the 13th!

Usual mad dash but at least I finish early today. DH is still up to his eyes in the first lot of marking and the second lot has started to arrive. So now the living room, dining room and hall are all full of bags of A level papers.

Hilstep - If you are reading, I know you were suffering with side effects of chemo, please try and get someone to let us know how you are x

Molly - hope today is a better day, please look after you x

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

Good Morning everyone ,well its been a bit of a fraughtful night. My eldest DD was rather poorly yesterday and went home from work about an hour after getting there with what she thought was an upset tummy.S & D. Last night her OH phoned to say she had been to see the Dr at Medoc (local out of hours Dr)and he had sent her to hospital. It seems they think its her appendix (its been grumbling for awhile) They've kept her in overnight and will probably take it out this morning.I knew she was really unwell as for her to go home from work she must have felt really bad bless her.She is fretting about it being the school fete this weekend which made me a bit cross as I think her health is more important Grrr blooming school.
So fingers crossed she will have it done this morning. Tomorrow her sister and I are do to go away for the weekend, been booked for several months so can't cancel, but I'm not too sure if I want to go as eldest DD is in hospital. What a dilemma, I'll have to wait and see how she is this morning and what they will do to her.I don't know kids are such a worry even when they are 47 :):)
Apart from that the sun is shining and the sky is a gorgeous blue at the moment. I didn't sleep very well obviously, as I was worried about DD so feel a bit wrung out this morning.
I think a nice hot shower and some breakfast may perk me up a bit.
Hope you all have a good day
Cheers chums JackieO xxx
• Good morning all,

A beautioful morning here, sun shining WM on.

Jackie, so sorry to hear your DD is not well. It is as you say it doesn't matter how old they are we still worry. Hopefully they will sort it out today for her. I do know that these days they hardly keep you in for more than a couple of days and I think usually key hole surgery.

You must have had a worrying night, so take care.

JackieO - Hope DD is sorted soon, what a worry. Hugs to you all.
HH - Thinking of you and OH.
Hugs to all, especially hilstep and Molly.

Overcast here at the moment, it didn't rain yesterday till about 4pm and then not for long but it was really muggy and warm.

I have my best friend coming to stay for the weekend so quite excited to see her, I think we will have a wander about in Glasgow tomorrow and go for lunch. DD is gutted as she is working tomorrow and then going out and staying in Glasgow. Still, we will pop into her work to see her and then she will be back on Sunday morning.

I was too tired to do any housework last night so will do it this morning/when I get in from work.

Enjoy Friday, take care. XX

Molly, Good idea for hubby to ring, SS are great at passing the buck if they can, though I think lack of funding is probably as much to blame as is lack of interest.
JackieO, I hope DD is ok soon & hope you can still go away.
Topsy, hows 'little one doing?
I'm lucky atm, I have an assortment of things to worry about, DD1 is on her own with 5 kids inc the twins as her hubby has gone away for 4 days, DD2 is having problems with my ex, who, as usual, is being a 1st class A***hole.
Hubby's family have started to kick off about MIL, they are fighting amongst themselves instead of supporting her, they are phoning hubby & trying to drag him into their arguments, so I'm intercepting as many calls as I can!
My car will fail it's MOT on Wednesday & we can't afford another one 'til August!
So I just need to get through today then this weekend I need to go & see DD! to give her break, visit DD2 so she can have a vent & see if I can suggest way's to cope with the ex, I had 25 years of doing it.
I've finished the alterations I was doing & I'm dog sitting this weekend as well as visiting MIL & banging BIL's heads together, wish me luck.
Hey ho, at least I'm not bored.
Have a good day everyone
Hugs Hester

Jackie O - Hope your eldest DD is feeling better soon x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Morning all,

Another beautiful day here I am off to work but dd has the day off so I shall put some washing in after this and ask her to hang it out for me. She can also prepare dinner for tonight.

Will have a quick tidy round tonight and then sit in front of the tv with a large gin !

Hilstep hope you are ok xx

Hugs to Molly x

Have good days all xx

Morning everyone

JackieO – hope they get your DD sorted, hugs to you and all the family x

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, bright sunshine – looks like another dry warm day. Washing to go on the line shortly.

DH up and gone to work early but not stupid early.

Dinner last night was a bit disjointed as DH was a bit late home, boys and I had already eaten, we had chicken, jacket potato, baked mushrooms and salad, DH had the same just a bit later. Tonight it’s likely to be something and chips – Friday night = easy night.

Did get some chores done yesterday – but didn’t feel great so just pottered about doing what I could. Still don’t feel great today but a bit better, (TOTM every now and then it’s really bad, been to Hospital etc not that long ago and there’s nothing wrong, I’m just getting old and getting to that “age”!).

Will be heading into town shortly, visit the bank, then a couple of other jobs to do, and visit the SM’s to do the food shopping. Will try to get some baking/cooking done today, as menfolk moaning nothing in the tins.

Have a great Friday everyone and be careful in the sun x

Keep safe and well x

Morning :hello:

Julie Not so clever really :D The chicken is done by joining then starting a new row, the same as making stripey blankets really (apart from the joining part!) but you don't turn your work when you reach the end. If it was continuous rounds I wouldn't even attempt it because even with a stitch marker I lose count and end up increasing or decreasing when I'm not meant to, lol. Crochet was a nightmare for me in the beginning, there were lots of times when I threw my work on the floor in frustration :D One day, it'll just 'click' and make complete sense. Some stitches I've tried and just can't do so I don't bother looking at the patterns.

Congratulations Nanny Judi :D He looks so cute in his shirt and tie :D

donny-gal Thank you but I daren't join any more groups or be introduced to any more blogs – I will never leave my laptop at this rate :D Would love to make a guinea pig though, I'll see what I can find on google.

Molly Are SS trying to make you feel like it's your job to sort out care etc. for your parents? It isn't, specially in cases like yours. Put it back on to them and have your op ASAP – YOUR health is more important at the moment.

My leg is playing up today – why? I thought it was back to normal :( - so I've loaded up on brufen. I'll take it easy today and just potter about. We'll pop to the shops later to pick up some fresh food. I'm going to buy flowers for my dad on sunday, no-one ever buys flowers for men. So I thought I'd be different :D I'll get manly blues with lots of greenery, he won't appreciate pink :D

Morning, rainy here but warm too.

Just popped in to say to JackieO to try not to worry about the appendix op. I had my emergency op four years ago, keyhole surgery and I insisted on going home the next day (hate plastic mattresses and pillows) and was fine. Three small holes, lots of wind-related events :o as the surgeons fill the abdomen with gas to separate organs and have better access. Took six weeks to get back driving and work but each person is different. So, good luck to you getting away.

Sitting here wrapped in a towel so must get dressed. Got to see doc this morning about rubbish knee which keeps me awake at night.

Hope everyone has a lucky Friday 13th.
