I bought a new whirlpool bath online. I had my bathroom totally refitted, new floor, wetwall, basin, toilet & units. The company i bought the whirlpool bath from, forgot my order! When i phoned to check on delivery they said they would rush one out to me, 3 days!
3 months later, my wife calls me through, can you hear dripping? whipped the sidepanel off the bath & there is a huge pool of water. I throw down some towels place a pan under drip & video where the drip is coming from. A junction similar to all found under any sink, you know the type you just hand tighten? This is next to the water pump & not touched by plumber installing the bath. I send an email to the bath supplier asking if they have liability insurance, yes no problem. They agree to send an engineer out to fix & replace the faulty connection. Due to the amount of water on the floor I can tell I need new flooring, wetwall has split very slightly, (builder wants to just cut that bit off by an inch above? it is behind bath wont be seen). Once I mention I want bathroom back the way it was, which means removing bath, replace floor & wetwall, re-instate bath, they go a bit quiet & say they will need to wait for engineers report. I decide to go through my house insurance who can then claim against their liabilty policy.
Had to explain all that so I could ask these questions.
1/. Builder sent by loss adjuster seems to want to do a quick fix, i.e. The floor has warped and needs replaced, but at one end it is under the wetwall. They want to cut and join just half inch away from wall so as not to have to remove & replace the wetwall (1sheet) & also where wetwall behind bath has split, "we can just cut an inch above that and check that water has not penetrated any further?" (2 x sheets). It cant be seen it's behind the bath!
2/. This work will start Monday, bath out, toilet away to replace floor. They dont expect bath to be back the same day but can reconnect the toilet. If bath goes in on 2nd day it should not be used for 24 hours? to allow silicon seal to set. I asked if we could get temporary accomodation, b&b for the night maybe 2 nights. Told No! as the toilet will be back in and we have a sink? They said they would pay us £10 each for inconvenience. I expected a bit better as it's not our fault & they have 90% chance of claiming this back? should they not be helping us through this a bit better?
3/. How do I ensure builder does the work to my satisfation. I replaced the flooring properly 3 months ago. Can I insist they do the same? If wetwall needs to come off to do that then so be it?
4/. Should I expect compensation for 4 weeks disruption? 2 weeks with dehumidifiers & waiting on engineer to fix part (seems like it was just loose fitting) i.e. (remember they rushed the job through for me, as they had forgot the order). 2 weeks waiting for builders to start, no lino & no side panel, bathroom looks a mess! Any advice much appreciated. I have emails from supplier accepting liabilty due to my video.

I own 2 houses semi detached, to each other, one is insured, and the other empty so not insured. Arsen was commited on the occupied and insured property, and the insurance co have accepted liambility and paid out to me . But the fire in my insured house peirced through to my other empty uninsured house, causing electrics to be burned out, and floor beams burned and windows smashed. So i said to my insurance company that surley they would pay out for the damage cased to my other house, as it was my insured house that has caused the damage. They said i can not claim at all for that house, as they only insure the other house, so i can not claim for that. But it makes no sence, as surley if your neighbour causes damage to your property via a fire in theres, there insurance would have to pay, so would it not be the same in my case. HELPPP0

First of all, start your own thread rather than hijacking someone elses, this site doesnt require a minimum number of posts before starting threads.
They havent admitted liability, unless you think they are the arsonist, but have accepted the claim.
There is a whole host of reasons why you cannot claim for your uninsured property from your insured one, the phrase that should give it away is the fact it is uninsured (and your insurers arent arsonists)0
