Hello everyone,

I'm a Londoner(if you couldn't guess!) who'd love to know of any Lidl or Aldi branches in London/ England that accept Credit cards.

Edit after phoning Lidl CS:
(South London)
Stockwell
Balham
Tooting
Streatham
Mithcam
Peckham

Morden (Sheeps68 confirmed)

All accept credit cards.

Aldi:

Kilburn High Road

Excellent thread, this question needed to be separated out from the discussion in the Aldi / Lidl thread.

From experience, the eta: LIDL branches in Hainault and Ilford with parking do take credit cards. The Southend-on-Sea store does not. I travel around a fair bit, but only use Lidl stores when I can park. I shall now make it my policy to test the system whenever I pass one and can find a space for my car!

    There's no Aldi in Hainualt!

I phoned up and was told by CS that Kilburn High Road (NW6) were the only branch in London that accepted CC! I think she was wrong as I've heard there's a branch in SW London that accepts CC- possibly Anerley which is a new branch
My local Aldi in South West London accepts credit cards.

    Not quite the case fortunately!

I cannot see where anyone claimed theere was ? Your question asked for Aldi or Lidl

On a separate note - Why do most people treat these as interchangeable , and lump them in to the same threads ? They dont link Tesco/Asda together , so why treat Aldi/Lidl as almost the same ?

There isn't an Lidl in Hainualt either.

Both Aldi & Lidl are German and have similar policies-e.g no free plastic bags, most English stores not accepting CCs ,etc..

I've always been curious why they should accept CCs in some stores and not others.

When you phoned Customer Services did they offer any explanation?

They said it was a trial and that eventually they'll roll it out to all England branches like they do in Scotland

I go to the Anerley one. I've not noticed if they take CC but them I haven't been looking as I assumed they didn't. However, I will check and report back for you.

    And Wales I believe.

I've read that they accept CCs in Wales in small print on Aldi posters behind the check out. I assumed (somewhat patronisingly:o) that they took credit cards in areas where people had less disposable cash. But I don't expect Customer Services to say it like that.

I suppose they're trying to work out whether it's better to get the custom of people who can't pay up front against the fees. And also maybe realising that not being able to use a CC irritates some 'middle class' customers who are used to using CCs for shopping .... and who probably have even less available cash!:rotfl:

Well what a load of tosh! I use Aldi, sometimes in Flint, North Wales and sometimes in Mold. Flint is not affluent and Mold and the surrounding area is more so, neither store accepts credit cards. I don't really understand why people want to pay food by credit card and I would not ne happy if prices went up in store to support the introduction of credit cards either.
