Best way to de-commission my car...

I have a 51-reg Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 sitting on my drive. 130k miles, a runner but I decided not to put it in for its MOT due to the fact that it will cost more than I have right now to get it up to scratch. Needs a Cat, brakes all-round, there's a knock in the steering and the tracking's out where I walloped a pothole. How would I best go about getting rid whilst getting something (ie as much as poss) for it?

MOT it, stick it on eBay with a list of the bits its failed on. You might do ok out of it.

That sounds like a, as is, £495 Gumtree special.

If you want to scrap it, then just ring round the yards locally and see what they will give you. Do keep in mind when doing this the cost of you transporting it personally to a yard to be weighed in.

As for £495 as is, I'd personally say that's a touch optimistic. I really cant see it selling for anything over it's scrap value that I would guess would be around £150-200..

if the engine is sound in it, and not rattling like a bag of old spanners with timing chain tensioner issues, the car is worth selling in the region of £300-450 just for the gearbox and engine alone.

if it has other desirable pieces on it like alloys oem spoiler coded bumpers mirrors and decent interior, a young lad would spend the money to make his look better.

on the other hand you have the dads looking for a cheap first time car for the kid that chucking £100-200 to pass its mot and spending £300-£400 for the car sounds like a good option as its not much money spent in the event of a write off.
