TV taken for repair now can't contact engineer

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes. On 16th May our 42" LCD tv became faulty. As my father wanted to watch the FA Cup final the following day I rang around several tv repair companies (on yell.com) to find one that would be able to fix it in time. The third person I called was able to come that night. After a couple of hours of trying to find the fault the engineer said he knew what was wrong but didn't have the correct part. He took the tv away and said if he had the part he would fit it and return the following day. Like an idiot I also paid him for the call out and the part.

He phoned the following day to say he didn't have the part but would order it and return during the week. He would phone me to let me know when he would be calling.

Since then I haven't been able to contact him. His phone just goes to voicemail, his mobile doesn't seem to take texts and he doesn't return calls. I did get a text message from him on monday to say he couldn't take my call but would see me later. Well didn't see him later and still haven't heard from him.

He is the second repair service on yell.com, had good reviews and seemed like a nice genuine guy so I felt that I could trust him.

What should I do next? My dad is going crazy as he is having to watch the World Cup on a really old, small tv. Obviously I'm also really worried that we've lost the tv and my money for good. I can't afford to replace the tv so really don't know what to do next. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Pay the guy a visit and demand the tv back either repaired or with a refund of the money you have already paid.

Easier said than done! I did think of doing this but not too sure how he would react. I have mobility problems so it would be tough - although I would have my trusty crutches with me so may give it a try.

    Whack him with the crutches!

    (Or phone the police?)

Thought I'd save the crutches to use as a last resort! Spoke to CAB who said he's in breach of contract and to send him a recorded delivery letter giving him until Tuesday to return the TV and the money I paid him. If I still don't hear anything they said to call them again on Tuesday afternoon. Here's hoping. Thanks everyone.
