Student Loan repayment

Hi,

In April 2009 I finished paying my Student Loan off, whichwas a great relief. I had tracked it and worked out how much I owed so that Icould clear the remaining balance. I did this and received a letter andstatement to say that I had finished paying. This April/May 2014 I received aletter stating I owe £871.21 to thestudent loans company. This is the first contact I have had with the Studentloan since completing my loan payment in 2009.
The Student Loans company cannot offer an explanation for this apart from tell me I owe it and that it was something to do with HMRC. I have contacted HMRC and they told me that it is something to do with an overpayment in error that the Student Loans company made and that they repaid the overpayment twice in error. Along with this I have also been charged interest on this amount the Student loans company overpaid.
I am unsure where I stand with this matter as I find it very frustrating that after five years of no contact I can be sent a demand for such a large sum of money, especially with interest on.

Thanks for your help.

You're happy for them that they're about to be chased by debt collectors for money that they may not even owe from a decade ago? Charming!

I don't have any real advice OP I'm afraid other than to insist they clearly explain how this underpayment has occurred before you pay any money towards it. Get them to write you a letter outlining exactly what you owe and why.
