Having ALOT of trouble with this company and looking for some advice. Its a long read but id appreciate any help
Last year myself and my partner bought our first house together. Around the time of moving in i needed to sort my car insurance out so went with the quickest cheapest option 1st Central.
Things were going ok, they were about £200 cheaper than competitors and soon enough a year passed by.
I got my renewal letter and was staggered of find my premium had doubled, I called to cancel the policy and was told i was too late.
The policy started on 6th May, I called up on the 20th (after 2 days waiting on hold for 45mins a time with no answer)
I questioned this as i didn't get a renewal letter until the 11th. They have told me they sent them out around the 27th the previous month. I accepted there could have been a postal issue but mentioned the 14 day cool off period. This was thrown back in my face as worthless and i was told if i didn't pay up debt collector would be involved.
To cancel the policy it would cost me a staggering £212. A heated debate started, i ask to cancel the policy with immediate effect and that i wouldn't be paying the sum of money until i had spoken to the Ombudsmen.
I phoned the ombudsmen who listened and put my case to them, saying i should hear back sometime in the next 8 weeks. To be safe i cancelled my direct debit.
2 days passed and i had a letter in the post. A default on my payments. Again after a 40 minute wait i got through to question this. The advisor told me the account was cancelled but the direct debit was still active!!! (Good job i cancelled it i was thinking)
The call ended as it being a mistake on their part and we went our separate ways.... until today!
A call today from 1st Central telling me i had not cancelled the account, and that i was just unhappy with the outstanding amount to cancel the policy!
Its ridiculous...
-why would i cancel the direct debit if i didn't cancel?
-why would i have taken out a new policy straight after the first call
-why was i read the road traffic act regarding lack of insurance if i had no desire to cancel?
The call recordings are now being listened to and i will hear back from them at some point...
My concern is should i be doing something? is there someone i can complain to or should i just sit it out and wait?
Thank you if you made it this far lol :T

Pay them if you value your credit score - the payments will be via a 3rd party credit provider, and you'll have a file full of defaults if you don't pay them soon.0
