Hi, i have helped my friend get a job same place i work, they have been claiming incap for the last 8 yrs non stop.
is there any benifits they can claim (single + childless)
housing benifit?
council tax?
back to work bonuses?
any help would be great,
i thought i was helping them by getting them a job, but now they may be worse off!!

Council Tax Benefit and Housing benefit are dependent on income and savings, and HB is only payable if they are renting.
If they have more than £6000 savings, any means-tested benefits will be reduced and if they have over £16000 savings they won't get anything, even if they have a low income.
Does your friend qualify for DLA? This is not means-tested.

I think too that if their income is low enough AND they work over 30 hours a week they may be eligible for tax credits.
Don't know about back to work bonuses, sorry. Someone will be along soon who does.
Hope they end up better off!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

sorry should of said:
he works 40 hours a week
paid 315.00 before tax + n.i
no savings
rents from council (1 bed flat)
was refused d.l.a
thankyou for your help.0 -
Try putting his details into https://www.entitledto.co.uk, but I would imagine that on that salary, as a childless single person, they will not be entitled to any benefits.
It's quite a good wage really.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

If he is in the right area she may qualify for the Pathway to Work payment which is £40 per week for 52 weeks provided he is earning under £15K per year gross.
Only certain areas qualify for this payment.
edited to add - just read the last post on earnings, so he is over the limit.0
