About to switch, which companies have you found to be the most reasonable. Just moved into the place, have no reference point.

You don't need a reference point. Try using a comparison site with some estimated figures. The generally accepted averages are about 13500kwh/year for gas and about 3500kwh for leccy.
Try it with 12000kw for gas a 3000 for leccy and then 15000 for gas and 4000 for electricity. That will give you some ideas of the costs enable you to decide who is the cheapest in your area.
You will be in a deemed contract with the existing supplier so you should have sent in your meter readings and opened the account in your own name on the day you moved in - otherwise you might end up paying for the previous occupier. You will probably be on their standard tariff which you can input into the comparison site.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
