PPI car finance

Hi,
Anyone else had the same problem:

I got PPI on car finance in 1994 on a Peugeot car. This was sold by PSA finance. Santander had now bought that company and no one seems to be taking responsibility. I have wrote to PSA, Santander and Peugeot and all are saying that I haven't got the paperwork so can't claim. I have sent all the details : car reg, address at the time, full details etc. I have claimed bank PPI back going back to 1989 and they paid out without paperwork!! Can anyone help in any way pls, as I seem to be banging my head against a brick wall. Thank you

I'm afraid your complaint pre-dates regulation (January 2005) and so the seller of your insurance doesn't even have to consider your complaint. You have no access to the Ombudsman and so you have indeed hit a "brick wall".

Banks had their own regulation prior to 2005 which accounts for your earlier success.

The dealer is responsible. They sold it to you. However, dealers did not become regulated until January 2005. So, they can reject complaints as being pre-regulation.

yet you havent written to the dealer that sold it to you.

You are not comparing same distribution channels though. As Moneyineptitude says above, the banks have to consider pre-regulation cases due to earlier regulatory bodies that were in place. It is classed as continuation for them. However, dealers didnt have any earlier regulation.
