Hi. Can anyone who pays by direct debit with EDF help. Do you still get the 6% discount. It seems to be missing from my lastest bill. I haven't had time to contact them as ive only just got the bill. Thought I would ask on here first.

What tariff are you on, have you changed tariff ? DD discounts have been dropped and are reflected in the unit price following OFGEMs rulings last year.

I am with EDF and Molerat is correct the DD discount has been stopped I received a letter from them a while ago.
  • Hi. EDF blue price promise August 2015. Thankyou for replying I did notice the small decrease in the day and night rate unit prices as I'm on E7. Which must be to counteract the discount.

Dropped on all new tariffs but people switching from EDF to A N Other need to check that it has been applied to their Final Bill (e.g.; switching from Blue Promise Fixed Apr 14)

The direct debit discount is still there and of a similar amount but, as molerat said, Ofgem demands this information now be obfuscated in unit pricing. Instead of an easy to understand "a 6% discount" you now have to go through two different iterations to compare different sets of figures to fathom out the discounts.

Ofgem also demand that direct debit tariffs are now separated from cash tariffs - that is why separate iterations are required to fathom out the information. Stark raving lunacy of the lowest order.

Instead of the easy to understand 6% off your total bill you now have the situation that it is only taken off your usage. Why that is "simpler, clearer", you've got me.

(Just checked their figures. The direct debit discount is now more than 7%* - but only off your usage. There is no longer any difference in standing charge for paying by direct debit.)

    * for the standard tariff - may vary in your region.

To work out the discount before required a 5 step calculation:
((Standing Charge* days) + (unit price * consumption)) * 0.06

    It now requires 3 steps:
(CC price - DD price) * consumption
    so yes it is simpler.

The line about DD tariffs now being separated from CC tariffs is not correct. There is no change on this part, I f you sign up to tariff A you can swap between payments types as often as you like and you remain on the same tariff even if its taken of sale. The only change is that it now takes longer for a supplier to push DD defaulters down to CC prices as they need to give a larger notice period of any changes to prices. This gives consumers a larger window to sort out what ever caused their DD to fail.

EDF were already well on the way to a simplified structure, the changes by Ofgem were not really aimed at them but at the other suppliers who truly had (to use your favourite word) obfuscated DD structures. Things liked capped % and discount only being paid after 12 months have been banned, this is a good thing.

I recall that EDF wound up the separate DD Discount with a letter in November? 2013 and a small lump sum payment (credit) to take me to the end of the fixed price deal in April 2014. That figure showed up in December 2013.

Really? You sure that wasn't for the dual fuel discount?

I don't think there ever was any separate discount for paying by direct debit on the EDF blue price promise August 2015 tariff, was there?
