Have 4 tv's from Tesco's and have not had a problem from any of them yet. One is quite a few years old, and was at a cheaper price than anywhere else at the time.
Wouldn't go anywhere else personally as they are all good quality and good value for us. And think of how many local businesses go under in each town they open in.

The dunmurry store would not be a loss - the staff in there are the most ignorant and rudest I've ever encountered.I got ham but i'm not a hamster.....0

I don't have to throw my well earned wages away on ridiculously priced items when I can save money and buy them elsewhere, when and where it in convenient for me.
I also don't have the money to throw it away of ridiculously priced items just to keep the locals in business. If they want my business and depend on me then they need to lower their prices.... simple as that.
It's a well known fact that prices are vastly inflated than the cost price for ANY business. My wages don't stretch that far these days due to silly prices of things so I'l shop where it's cheapest for me. I don't need to spend loads of money and worry about "Top Names" and all that other rubbish people need to make themselves look fancy.
I was never down in the world to need to come up or pretend I'm someone I'm not. So I'll stick with Tescos thanks.Pay all debt off by Christmas 2025 £815.45/£3,000£1 a day challenge 2025 - £180/£730 Declutter a bag a week in 2025 11/52Lose 25lb - 10/25lbs Read 1 book per week - 5/52Pay off credit card debt 18%/100%0 -

You missed my point entirely, and clearly havent grasped the impact of the likes of Tescos, so i'll explain.- Tescos arent the only people to supply budget brands, your local retailer will too.
- Your local retailer will moreoften be able to pricematch Tescos and their ilk because to be honest, Tescos arent that cheap. We bought a washing machine and tumble dryer last saturday from a local retailer and the deal we got meant they were cheaper than Argos, Currys, etc and we didnt even need to get them to price match - they volunteered the discount. Not only that, but they delivered both down to our house within the hour for free - because we'd shopped there before and they new us. Try getting that sort of service from your check out girl in Tescos or Argos.
- Your local retailer will have the experience - usually years of it - to advise you on the best one for your needs. I've seen retailers suggest i buy a cheaper item than the one i came in for as its better value. Again, try getting some real advice from your local Tescos check out girl.
- Tescos love people like you - they've got you convinced they're the cheapest to the point whereby you dont even check your local retailers, when in reality a lot of it is marketing and hype - offers that are "sold out" when you get there, or marked up prices one week so they can drop them the next. Oh, and the other classic - the buy two get one free offers that work out more expensive than buying them singly the week before.
- Tescos aim is to destroy the local competition. They will work ruthlessly to do so and once they've done that, then they can control the prices of products.
- Maybe you're not old enough to remember but these big supermarkets were "sold" to us years ago on the notion that they bought in bulk and sold cheap. Now that they dominate, they set the prices among themselves.
- Look at our local towns now that people use the big supermarkets - local businesses gone and for what?
- These big chains come in to towns and demand they get massive rates cuts compared to local businesses, yet our own local businesses are forced to pay "full whack"
- Tescos open their centres with "free parking", local businesses end up with council controlled pay car parks.
- Tescos and these big companies dont pay taxes in the sense that local businesses do - they use foreign loopholes to pay only a fraction of what they should. That means more for the rest of us to pay.
- Probably most importantly - of every pound you spend in Tescos something like 87p is sucked out of our local economy and ends up in some international bank account. If you buy local, something like 70p stays in the local economy.
And not just picking on Tescos - all these big multinationals are the same.
So, yes slap it into them if they're not making the £billion a year profit or whatever they had promised shareholders they would make. Hopefully it means more money for our local businesses and our country.0 -

Just to correct this misconception too, the margins on electrical goods are waifer thin. I would say its probably around 10% gross profit for the retailer which if you know anything about retail, is peanuts.
What the big players do is get you in the door with headline figures that are appealing then they're "sold out" when you get there, but heres a "better" one for "just" £50 more OR they stiff you in the price of the accessories - "special offer on HDMI cables when you buy a TV 'just' £20" when you can buy them in poundland. OR "TV stand down to £99 when you buy this TV", when you could buy a better one locally for £49.0 -

Great post.
Anyone who thinks Tesco is cheap is a marketing victim in my opinion. Their pricing model is designed to con their customers. Prices up one day and 50% off the next to make it look like you've done a good deal.
I must admit, Sammy's rates hike on out of town retail like this had my support.0 -
I think they are getting out when they can. They also sublet the small units around the store at Carnmoney from my understanding and getting tenants is surely a nightmare in this climate too. I'm sure when their lease was up, they jumped at the chance to leave, sadly.0

Complete misunderstanding of how businesses run.
The only place you get Technika TVs is Tesco, so you're not comparing like for like. The name on the front is very often NOT the only difference, you're buying years old technology. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, just don't dream that it's the same thing.
What happens to a business when they sell everything for cost price? Where does the wages, rates, rental, electricity, water etc come from?0
