Saddened to see this once vibrant store has finally succumb to what most felt was inevitable - that said I hope they relocate the current staff.
When it was not turned in to a snazzy Express store it seemed that Tesco (for whatever reason) had given up on it.
Still think of it as Crazy's and even in recent years as a store with staff that actually wanted to help you.
Much the same as the old Northcotte (and look what happened to that).

All I can say now is Dunmurray! Be Afraid, be very Afraid.
Nationally Tesco is in Dire Straits and what are they doing to try and fix things - Absolutely nothing, just ploughing ahead with their 90's strategy in suicide - cant even see what they have when they have what should be a winner on their hands.
I dont live in that area but pass by often and call in often and will miss it.

Personally I think they have lost their way a bit. They are trying to hard to sell "EVERYTHING" rather than concentrating on what they should be selling....... groceries !!
No..... I'm not going to Tesco to buy a TV or glasses or a tablet...... there are others who do it better to a better spec and cheaper so I wish they would stop trying to be something they are not...... Why try to compete with Argos and Amazon? Any wonder ASDA, LIDL et al. are taking their custom left, right and centre....
SORT IT OUT !!0 -
^ you are aware that both Lidl & more so Asda also sell TVs, tablets, tools & many other things beginning with "T", even Tyres !!!!!!
I used to work in a "Crazy Prices" (Bangor) over 20 years ago & it sold all sorts even back then ... times change & people have to adapt
I do however understand where you're coming from as I wouldn't buy a TV from Tesco / Asda or even Argos but for many the budget TV is exactly what they want / can afford.0 -
Is there not a massive Tesco Extra at the Abbey Centre ?
Economies of scale here, you can't expect a company to maintain a store which is not making the required profit, that's business after all
I hope the 58 staff get redeployed to their satisfaction or get a worth while redundancy package.I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -

Yes true, but they are not trying to take on the likes of Argos or Amazon with huge swathes of shelf space dedicated to "non-essential" items...
I am led to believe also that Tesco have a massive range of "Regional" pricing going on so one item in a Tesco in Manchester could be a different price to the same item in Basildon...... I don't believe that is the case (To the same extent at least) with other supermarkets....
I also pretty sure they are quite sneaky and stuff in your Tesco Express can be more expensive than in the Tesco Extra in the same area...0 -
The huge, newly refurbished Tesco Northcott is a 10 minute walk from this store, 2 or 3 minutes in a car. I'm amazed this one has lasted this long.0

yes we are 'fortunate' to have 2 x 24 hr tescos in/near Glengormley....I hope the staff get sorted out ok, but tbh, that wee Tesco was never really up to much - ran out of things, changed stocked items from one month to the next. The BP/spar in the village is very good for essentials if u don't want the hassle of going to a large shop for a thing of milk! so I'll not be too sorry to see it close but I would love a Sainsburys to appear in its place.0

If commercial rates, other tax structures and various legislation were less biased towards these businesses we would see a lot more of them closing.
Then of course there are all the companies that pay next to no tax. Guess who makes up the difference!
Some are now questioning if the much vaunted financial sector is in fact an asset or an overall liability.

Really depends how you look at these things, what is in my interests right now, today with my limited income and what may be in our collective best interest in the long term. ALL these businesses take profits out of NI.[STRIKE]Less is more.[/STRIKE] No less is Less.0 -
To be honest - slap it into Tescos if they are now getting it tight.0

I was listening to some bloke on the radio the other morning on radio ulster and he was saying people are moving towards the "48 hour shop" whereby they're not buying for a week ahead, but just nipping in for enough stuff to do them for a couple of days - hence the big supermarkets are being hit by this and the small local stores are starting to gain.0 -
Tesco absolutely do price regionally - look at the petrol as the most obvious example, versus Asda who price nationally. You'll usually find that Metro stores are more expensive. Tesco seem to give out the image that they're cheap, but they're not. Maybe a few loss leaders in there to get you in the door. Electronics etc (esp. DVDs, games etc) are rarely competitive. Technika TVs aren't good value, just cheap.0
