I was paying the credit card at one point with the PPI but maybe I would not be in such a mess if the PPI was not in with the payments, when I was made redundant it was not worth the paper it was written on.

Two problems there. The first is that you clearly knew you had the PPI. More significantly, you actually tried to claim on it and it didn't pay out - so that was the time to complain.
And the PPI might have been the straw that broke the camel's back - but you will have a hard time proving it.0
