I have a friend who is in her 70's and her fridge freezer is broken.
As she is on a tight pension there is not much money left to splash out on a fridge freezer. So hope someone can help us.
Thanks in advance

If your friend gets any top up benefits over and above her pension she probably qualifies for this special power deal .

It would give her the lowest priced Gas and Electric in the country and she can get a new fridge-freezer for £50 !
It would take a while to set up and deliver so a post on Freecycle as a previous poster suggested would probably get her one for the short term until the new one arrives .

How broken is it?
Sometimes the coolant gets an "air lock" [not technically accurate] and will not flow round
Try laying the item on its back for 24 hours, then return to upright for at least 12 hours [24 is much better] and switch on
May do the trick
