Pan to make caramel in

I'm doing a special dinner for my Dad on Sunday and the recipe I'd like to do for desert has caramel in it. It says to use a heavy based pan. Sadly I don't have one. As I have a whole heap of Tesco coupons I thought I'd try and get one from there, but I can't see any. I could be looking for the wrong thing though. I was wondering if I copper based pan would do instead?

Thanks for any advice.

Any heavy pan will do, instead of a thin aluminium one, copper bottom fine as ling as you don't have an induction hob.
