Help from Equifax / Experian rep

Options
Hi,

Can anyone working for either credit ref agency advise.
My Son has been trying since Feb to change from Virgin PAYG mobile to Pay Monthly Sim...failed credit check in Feb, according to Virgin due to his date of birth. Went to Virgin underwriter who confirmed everything ok and to try again....failed again....told to wait until May and try again....failed again..........gone back to underwriter.......they(Virgin) keep saying its a problem with his date of birth. He is on electoral role, has current account and credit card...all confirmed with his date of birth so how can there be a problem with his date of birth. We have checked his credit files and no problems are showing...we are at a loss!!!

Can he see on one of his credit files the credit application searches for Virgin?

And on that file do all the open & closed accounts show the same correct date of birth?

Is there a chance he ever applied for credit product and gave an incorrect date of birth either accidentally or intentionally (surprising number of posts on these boards from people who lied about a date of birth to get a contract phone before they were 18).
It may be worth contacting national hunter and checking the data they hold and seeing if there is an anomaly there - national hunter hold application information from previous credit applications (both successful and unsuccesful applications) - info on national hunter can be found on this link - http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/credit-rating-credit-score#fraud

    Thanks for replying:

Yes to both of the first questions.....

He only has bank account and credit card with own bank...not applied for any other forms of credit.

Has he checked his files with the CRA'S? If not I'd say do that first, could be obvious when you look. Get the £2 reports with Experian and Equifax and the free for life one with Noddle (Callcredit).

All credit files fine...no issues, no other recent applications, no late payments...

Then I would think it is worth him checking what data national hunter hold.

If that doesn't show up anything unexpected then he could consider writing to Virgin and appealing the decision to decline and asking them to explain what the supposed problem that relates to his dat of birth.
Whilst they don't have to provide an explanation as to why he has been declined they may be able to provide further information as to what the problem is.

Alternatively he could try to obtain a contract with another mobile provider.
