Ford Focus 1.8TDCi - 'lost' key-immobiliser settings twice

Options
Hi All

My car (Ford Focus 1.8TDCi, 2004) has 'lost' its key-immobiliser settings twice in the past week.

The first time I got a locksmith out who reset the keys to the car (or vice versa) and got it working. Then a few days later I got the same problem again.

Dashboard lights come on, engine doesn't attempt to start.
Both times this problem has occurred, it's been preceded by a 'successful' start which was quite hestitant, ie almost failing to start.

The only fault codes apparently relate to the loss of the key settings. There is no diagnostic code about any immobiliser fault. The battery and starter motor are both fine.

Any ideas please?

Thanks
James

Both keys stopped working? More likely to be the pickup coil around the ignition barrel.

If it was just one key you may have a dodgy chip in that key.
