PPI Claim Barclays Overdraft

I started a claim for missold PPI insurance on my Barclays current account overdraft. When I started the claim I was advised that the policy was started in June 1998 - which I was shocked about as I had not noticed it before, as it has only recently been listed as PPI on the account! I stopped the policy the same day and the girl I spoke to from Barclays Dublin also confirmed it started in June 1998. I never had any information or paperwork for this policy. I received a letter from my bank upholding the claim and have received a payment into my account, however it states that the policy started in June 2007. I have contacted Barclays and have been told that is correct and it did start in June 2007. I asked why it was confirmed to me twice that it was June 1998 and was told it must be when the account was opened which I also said was incorrect as I've only ever had an account with Barclays and opened that at the age of 5 - which was a bit before 1998!!! He was adamant that the details were correct and the payment was therefore correct. I am at a loss as to what to do as I have no proof the policy started in June 1998. How can I pursue this or find out for definite the start date - if it started in 1998 I would be due over double the amount I have received? Don't want to lose out but need to know for definite! Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone know a way to find out for sure? Many thanks for any advice.
