Cancelled Flight

Dear all
I hope this is the right place to post, please forgive me if not
My partner and I went to Italy 28th may.. On our return flight with Ryanair (04/06) it was cancelled due to an impromtu strike by the baggage handlers because of their company going bust that morning.
I was not informed of the cancelation until an hour (if not more) after the flight was meant to leave
I received a text from Ryanair telling me that I could rebook my flight free of charge by visiting their site
I logged on and their next available flight was 09/06..which meant 5 more nights stranded in Rome
I was never offered an alternative route or airline
My question is this
Whilst Ryanair state in their policy that strike action is not covered and my travel insurance doesn't cover incidents like this as they claim it to be the airlines responsibility... I'm now out of pocket for the sum of about £800 (I have all receipts)
I have emailed the Italian baggage company who went on strike but not had a reply
To explain the situation further the baggage company in Rome Ciampino went on strike because they hadn't been paid for 1 week. This allows the airline to divert responsibility and also the insurance company..
It may be a shot in the dark but to be £800 down due to no fault of my own seems unfair.. If I didn't have a wonderful mother then I don't know what would have happened. I believe I'm entitled to some sort of compensation .. Simply to pay mum back
Cam anyone help?
Kind regards
Calvo

I'm now fully aware that there is a huge difference between compensation and cost... I'm simply seeking cost... Not compensation0

Had you checked in for the return flight and it was subsequently cancelled?0

Not clear why your insurance does not cover?

It is strange that the information shows that the flight operated (although just over 2 hours delayed)
Entering the flight details into one of the NWNF sites shows "Unfortunately, our data shows that no compensation-related issues occurred with this flight."
Was there a Ryanair desk there? Were you able to speak to anyone at the airport or did you just leave?0 -
