Will one late payment affect my credit lending?

Send them a letter if they do indeed put a late payment marker on your credit file. You've nothing to lose.
Have you seen that the late mark actually appear on your credit file or you just hear it from them? Could it happen that they have not reported it ?
If they have reported it and then agree to remove it, this is very unusual. I think it is something to do with the reputational damage. CRA does not know whose fault it is and the might think that it is the lender fault and this is not good for the lenders reputation ....0
