EDF 'we have cancelled previous Gas & Electric bill' after I have paid it - why?

OK, I am pretty savvy with most things but I am getting really, really p---ed off with EDF now, I am in the midst of switching but it is not the top of my list at this minute (or maybe it is....)

They kept on putting my DD up to £170 a month despite us not owing anything or using anywhere near that amount so I have cancelled the DD and now pay the bill monthly. However, when I pay the bill and do my next reading, they cancel the previous bill and work it all out again on that bill, etc.... this is the 3rd time they have done this. Surely the bill, is what it is, at that time and the next bill carries on from that bill?

I paid the bill and now when they send the bills they are cancelling the charges and replacing them with new amounts. Next month they will do the same. I do have to sit and work them all out and check they have not conveniently missed any payments we have made but why are they doing this? I am sick of it, I thought it was supposed to be getting simpler and it was much easier before.

They sent me a bill in October and January and in April cancelled both those bills and then added everything up again and done me a new bill for April with everything put back on. ARGHH!!!!

They reckon £100 a month on gas (on for an hour a day to heat water only, no heating or cooking) and electric - and I do not even cook every day. I need to take a look at that too.

What in the name of god is going on????

Sound like your doing this the wrong way round. Give a reading wait for the bill on that reading then pay it.

They will only be cancelling and re-billing if they have had to estimate a read. If you then submit a read that is different to the estimated read they will need to re-bill you.

No, that isn't the case, I have always given reads - I gave a read 3 times last year then this April they sent me a bill cancelling out everything from last June and re-billing me again.

If I pay my bill today and then do another read in 2 weeks time, when I get my bill they will 'cancel the charges' from the last bill and add them onto this one. I am doing it monthly as they seem to be free to help themselves to whatever they feel like from my bank and that is completely unacceptable. I make arrangements at £122 a month, 2 days later they send me another letter saying they are taking £170 despite us having a credit. So I make arrangements to drop it to £122 and 2 days later another letter saying they are upping it to £170. I am sick to death with it, furthermore they seem to have the power to take what they want, when they want. I haven't used it but I am being expected to pay for it?? No thanks.

I've gone back through all my bills, they have done it on each and every one. Taken some off and added it back on again, now I am reading monthly it is more apparent they are doing it.

I have had this discussion with EDF about constantly changing DDs - the administrative cost of which must eventually fall to customers. They say that they are complying with OFGEM guidelines. For my part, I budgeted for the monthly amount stated in an energy summary in April 13. I gave monthly meter readings and the DD changed each time. A check shows that 12 times my original monthly amount would have resulted in an overpayment of £70 (last Winter's warmer weather). I have now switched and whilst my new supplier calculates a revised DD, it is up to me whether I accept the revised figure. As they pay interest on any monthly balance, then I will just monitor rather than change.

My final bill this April, included the cancellation of a bill from November 2013 and a recalculation back to last May!!! No idea why they do it, as it came out spot on with what I'd calculated, I let it go

Look at the different versions of the bill.
See what is actually changed that has resulted in a different end cost.
That will explain what is going on in EDF's mind ;)
