Pet Insurance Renewal

My dog is nearly 7. The renewal quote for his insurance has increased a lot this year but is still better than some other companies offer. However; I went onto the company's website and entered all my dog's details (as if I were a new customer) and a much cheaper quote came up. £14 as opposed to £23. same level of cover. I rang the company and queried it and was told new customers get a 15% discount.. but the difference here is more than 15%. No response from lady on phone. Am I doing anything wrong if I let my dog insurance lapse a day and then re insure with this company as a new customer.. thus getting the lower premium?

This should be ok so long as you have not made any visits to the vets and your pet has not developed any pre-existing conditions or got any undiagnosed symptoms. If the only visits you have made have been routine visits then you need to ensure that your vet did not record anything on your pets records that might at a late date be used to suggest it was an early sign of a condition!
This applies even if you have a 12-month policy (rather than a condition-limited or lifetime policy) as the 12-months runs from the date the condition started rather than the beginning of the policy term.
Also note that all new policies have an initial exclusion period .. usually 10-14 days .. if your pet becomes ill during this time it won't be covered. Some policies also apply exclusion periods to accidents (though this is usually 2-5 days).0 -
I have just had an online chat with an advisor at the insurance and told them /asked them if it is ok to re new as new customer. They said that as long as I knew ihad 14 days at start that were not covered and I had made sure old policy was officially cancelled there was no problem. I wouldn't be covered for conditions previously claimed for whether it was a new or old policy.0

As a matter of interest which pet insurance policy do you have? Interested as there are very few policies which will not continue to cover conditions previously claimed for .. until at least 12 months after the start date of the condition!0
