Changing from business to private electric

We have a property which was a commercial building and we have converted it to a bungalow. British Gas took over the supply of electricity from EDF in error but said they couldn't change it back (this was some years ago). BG now say that we are being charged at commercial rate and to change it to domestic will cost. The building has night stores so has Economy 7 (if that makes a difference?) We're not sure why we should have to pay - what does it involve? BG say they have to change the meter but should there be a charge? Anyone any experience of this situation? Could we just change supplier?
Thank you in advance.

They're not! And business attracts 20% VAT, not 5%0 -

Hi Cruise Queen,
I would suggest that you weigh up how much BG want to charge you, business prices are often cheaper but they also include full rate VAT and levies such as the climate change levy as well as variable prices which could mean a sudden increase in your bill.
If BG want to charge you a significant amount it may be worthwhile switching supplier as a business customer to another supplier which won't then charge you to switch to domestic.
The fact that your on Economy 7 won't be an issue as nearly all domestic suppliers support it.0
