Contents Insurance and payout

Hi

We have a burglar alarm but don't use it because our cat sets it off. We told the insurance provider when setting up the contents insurance that we don't have a burglar alarm. If we were burgled would the insurance company pay out if they see the burglar alarm but it was not used? thanks

No - providing there is no endorsement that an alarm has to be applied, they cannot take any action if you fail to disclose something which actually improves the security of the property.
