I did once get a gas meter moved for free by playing the safety joker card. At some point in history the house must have been altered, if you open the front door fully it crashed into the gas meter. British gas as it was came out, looked and said it would cost £XXX. I said no, sorry, I couldn't afford that and provided he would sign a document stating it was safe as was, I'd leave it.

Yes, it got changed to an outside box withing 2 weeks for free.;);)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

    We did ours last year.

Gas was £508 including VAT for up to 2 metres, done by National Grid who were very good. The next price is up to 10m I think and this is somewhat more expensive. This included moving the meter, and digging out the trenches etc, but didn't include reconnection of internal gas fittings as they will only reconnect "as was" and we wanted some changes made so got our own heating engineer to reconnect. Total spend was £658.

    Hope this helps.

My gas move was very similar to above and that price approx.

You can double those prices and then some for London.

    They vary by region.
  • Hi
I am looking at moving both my Gas & electric meters which are in the kitchen to the outside wall & it is very expensive for what work would be done. National Grid are the only ones who can move the gas meter & they get you to fill out an online form & in my case the charge was £1200 which they want up front then they send an engineer to look at it then give you another price. Western power are the same but their price was £869 for moving the electric meter. I rang up & complained to say why should I pay up before any work is done. I was simply told that's the way we do it pay now or don't get it done. I am still in the process of thinking if it's worth it but these companies have no competition so charge inflated prices
