Carpet moths

It is too late for me to realise that wool carpet attract moths. If I knew before I would have been on the look ouot and take precaution. I want to have wooden floor now instead of carpet hoping this will solve the problem. Does anybody know whether I need to have the sitting room treated after I have removed the infested carpet prior to new flooring. It will be such a pain to empty the room. I know the carpet fitter will need the room empty, and I wonder what other people do, can you get workmen prepared to help with the removal of furnitures and put them in the garden or garage. Are there any people willing to do this for a fee? Thanks

As long as you vacuum regularly (including under low furniture, which is where they lay their eggs) you won't have a problem. We also found out too late, but all it means is that there are one or two bits of furniture we can't move because the carpet underneath is holey!

Obviously, if you take up the carpet, there is no need to treat anything, as they only attack natural fibres.

There are wool carpets on the market that come pre-treated against moths. Westex Carpets and Adam Carpets are two I know of that do. It is always best to check with the retailer though which ranges are treated.
