Nexus 7 not working

All I get with my Nexus 7 is the 4 coloured balls. Have tried to reset it and restore factory settings but it refuses to start. I have seen a suggestion to take the back off and disconnect the battery and then re-attach. Any thoughts?

    Sound like the restore failed.
Of all you get is the 4 balls then it's stuck in a boot loop.

Can you boot into the bootloader? ( hold vol down and power button)
If you can then you just need to run the restore again. You might need to plug it in a PC if you can't get the boot loader to start.

Not if you still have a warranty - this will definitely void it !!

The boot loader will not start even when connected to computer. Contacted Google and am told they will get back to me and not to open back of tablet.

    are you sure it's charged?

Plug it into the charger and leave it for a few hours, it might not look like it's charging, as it will be trickle charging a 'empty' battery (emptying a battery in devices like the Nexus 7 can kill, it so it requires a careful 'trickle charge' to prime the battery again before normal charging can happen.)

Thanks SOlitaire. I assumed it was fully charged but I will give it a go. I've been informed by Google Play that they can do nothing and it is now out of warranty. If this does not work there is possibly nothing to lose by taking off the back and detaching and re-attaching the battery.

Back comes off very easily. I assume we're talking about the 2012 model (no camera on the back). I've managed it with my nails, but the backs may have been off before. You need a little plastic tool called a 'spudger' if you don't want to risk scratching anything, but you can do it easily enough if you're careful with small flat head screwdrivers, or a butter or putty knife, and your nails. Battery then disconnects pretty easily via an obvious but slightly fiddly cable. See ifixit.com for detailed photos and process.
