This is really not a vent but more an enquiry - maybe wrong forum.
Got my invoice today and I knew about goods I had purchased on line for DGS3 who was imminently due, and had put on store card. Had bought stuff previously last month in store and was sure I had not received a statement and more than once checked my paperwork - I keep these for several months and write on them when and how paid.
The current statement shows that I did not pay the June account and I have incurred late payment charge and interest. OK if that is my fault. I was a bit distracted but I cannot find any record of a statement (store card payment) and I do accept no payment taken from bank account. I have set up an immediate payment for full amount asked for and will pay in full but I do have a feeling I did not get the statement and perhaps I should have contacted Mothercare earlier but not always sure when billing period runs from. I have e-mailed Mothercare tonight in a very pleasant manner asking if they can check whether there was a mistake at their end as to whether statement actually was sent to me for June, pointing out that full payment has been made now and also pointing out in the last 4 and a half years I have never defaulted on a payment.
Have I proceeded correctly? I have not asked for comp. I have settled the account as I have never done this with a store card before or with debit card. I always set up payment as soon as it comes in - for full amount not the minimum. I am not venting, justing asking if I have done the right thing. Was I right in contacting Mothercare to query this?
Has anyone else had this with store card payments

As I understand this, you missed a payment that was due on your store card and you've been charged a late payment fee plus interest.
You acknowledge that no money has gone out of your bank account.I have not asked for comp?
Who would you want compensation from?
Mothercare for not sending the statement recorded delivery?
Or for not ringing up to check that you'd received it?
Royal Mail for not putting the letter personally into your hand?
Mothercare for not sending you a reminder that the payment was due?
Why does everybody mention compensation at the drop of a hat?
You missed a payment and have been charged.:rolleyes:0 -
I used the wrong punctuation in my post last night. I am certainly not asking for compensation. I just have queried if Mothercare could check at their end if any glitches with the issue of card statements to me. Payment in full will be made tomorrow via internet banking - set up last night. I will totally accept if I am in the wrong and something has happened between Mothercare sending me statement that has somehow gone missing for whatever reason. I am not blaming anyone as to be honest who could you blame? As I said, I was in a highly distracted state at that time and it could have been me which I will totally accept. Just asking Mothercare for clarification. If Mothercare do come back to me to say there was a glitch when issuing previous statement, I would only look for the late payment and interest back, not compensation. I maybe did not word my original post quite correctly last night.
I am not seeking to claim compensation which no compensation is due. I think I just wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience that maybe the odd statement hasn't reached them for whatever reason.

I think you've done everything you can by getting in touch with Mothercare and explaining the situation to them and pointing out that you've never missed a payment previously.
I don't know if it will work and they'll refund your charges (all my credit cards are set up as a direct debit for the full amount), but you've done the best you can.
I did find that when my elderly Mum & Dad went overdrawn by about £90 for just one day, a polite letter to the bank (Natwest) resulted in a refund of the charges that the bank had levied without any hassle.
Good luck in getting your charges back.

Actually, this is probably a good idea as I always pay things off when card statements come in. As I said before rather distracted about third grandchild's arrival so no fault can be apportioned. It really well could have been me and for some reason mislaid paperwork. Usually, as soon as anything comes in I go onto Internet banking and either pay immediately because funds usually available or set a date the day after I get paid.
I am not into the compo thing and I have had an acknowlegement from Mothercare re e-mail and I should hear from them. Whichever way it goes I will accept and go with the flow. As no money had left my account previously I am at the end of the day only paying for goods I had received.
Glad to hear your parents got money refunded but it must have been stressful for them at the time.
Thanks for being in touch.0 -

Stressful for them?
Nah! They were away enjoying themselves.
I deal with all their finances so they just leave me to sort out any problems.
I did read the riot act to them about withdrawing large sums of money without letting me know in advance so I could move money from their internet savings account into their current account to avoid them going overdrawn, though. :rotfl:

Well, a wee update Polly
This morning decided to go through a pile of recycling paper waste - well you know what I found - OMG! Then checked e-mails and had an absolute fantastic response from Mothercare, apologising, but saying their accounts dealt with by GE Finance etc and here is a personal contact number. Hope you will still shop with us but you can understand we pay GE Finance a lot of money to deal with our finances.
CS finished up by wishing me well with my third DGS and that they would help in store on any occasion with any problem we may encounter.
I think this is all what CS is about not abrasive, pointing out what the position is and I at the end of the day was totally and utterly wrong! Goodness, if DS1 and partner decide to have family must really keep tabs on my accounts!!!!!!!!!!!!
You sound fab and glad to have exchanged posts with you! A breath of fresh air methinks. (By the way 12 hours with my 3 boys today - knackered but exhilirated!!!!!!!!) Your parents sound fab!
Thanks

Well! Well!
What a nice reply from Mothercare.
And at least now you know that your statement didn't go missing.
All you can do is put it down to experience (and set up those direct debits to make sure you don't incur charges again!)
Mum & Dad got themselves in another hole this week (but luckily spoke to me before it got too bad).
I loaned them £200 in exchange for a £200 cheque so they wouldn't go overdrawn again.
I don't know, parents these days! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Hope you have fun with the kids - at least with grandkids, you can give them back and go off to the pub!
Regards
