Is a faulty switch and a ten minute job really worth moaning about

    Yes.
I don't know if you realise, but this is the "consumer rights" board.
The retailer has already attempted to deceive the OP about his statutory rights and if there is another problem in the future and this is an indication of how this particular retailer treats his customers, a faulty switch and a 10 minute job may well be something to worry about.

    Thank you Shaun from Africa.

I suspect the manufacturer pays the dealership for warranty repairs which is why he wants to resolve by repair only.

If I had wanted a repaired warranty return I could have bought the same machine for a third of the price.

Appears that Burlington6 specialises in inane comments rather than offering factual advice and the impartial, constructive viewpoints that others freely give.

Not sure if this forum likes to find out about outcomes but my strimmer issue is sorted out.

After some very strong communications from credit card company the retailer finally told them to advise us that if we returned the item undamaged they would refund in full. Took it back this morning and full refund given, in fact he seemed like he couldn't wait to give us our money and get us out of the shop!

    Another happy MSE Forum customer.

Incidentally, it did suddenly dawn on me that I have Legal cover with my household insurance who it appears would have been willing to help had it gone further.

Thanks. Yes - we DO like to hear the outcomes. (Good or bad). That way we'll know if the advice given was correct. (Or at least worked anyway). :)
