Ok Mercman - not sure if you just looked at link or downloaded file from link.

First step download file from link.

Solution uses data validation, and a pivot table.

Sheet 2 holds the key unique values you will select from when entering data in Sheet 1. So Sheet 2 has column A which is a list of models, column B is a list of locations, Column C a list of colours.
Now go back to Sheet1 and your actual input data will be input in cells A2, B2, C2 etc using the dropdowns.

Finally on the pivot table (Sheet 1) right click in cell F1 and do refresh. Pivot table summary data will be refreshed with latest result.

Also in F1 top right corner the filter can be used to show new/hide models in the dataset as needed.

    Think that covers it.

    I still dont see it.....

I was expecting to simply see some formlua that i would use within my table along the lines of

If Cell A = A then populate A in tally chart

Its difficult to explain i think what i need to do (unless you understand my rubbish explanation).....

One database will have many rows and will be constantly added to. I ideally would like the data from this to auto populate a tally chart AND produce a chart or just produce a chart from the data........

Column A has around 15 variables but will be a single entry per row

Column B has 5 variables and will be a single entry per row
Column C has 16 variables and will be a single entry per row....

Each row will have a single entry from columns A,B & C

I'm not sure how else to explain it, or how to make my database work from the replies on here:o

Can you post a simple version of what you want to see somewhere and then put a download link here?
If you can, I should be able to throw something together for you quite easily.

Is the issue that you are using codes to stand-in for real data?

Is there a particular reason why you've done that? Unless the data is extremely complicated, then you won't save much in storage, and you should have plenty. Speed-wise even Excel 2003 shouldn't make much difference.

Glad you got things sorted out in the end.
Don't put yourself down, I was at the same level <mumble, mumble> years ago and was grateful for the assistance I was given. All it takes is practice and experience.
All I can do is pass on the help I was given and sort of even things out.
