    Hi Dan
    My advice for you?
    1. Treat your wife with more love and respect.
    2. Mind your own business (given you are keen to tell us that your money is your own, but you still think you can 'insist' about your wife's choices).

Wait till you get the statement and find that the £1.00 has accrued interest of thousands over a few months.

Hmmm. I agree with the original post. It feels similar to a story I read recently about a betting shop calling a customer on days he didn't come in and offering to "lend" him money. There's something morally wrong about it, especially if they are targeting people they know have problems.

But yeah, you got a free pound at least! :)
  • I think your reaction has some merit. Firstly I think sending a £1 coin to someone with money issues is akin to sending a sample of Gin to an alcoholic or a casino chip to someone with a gambling addiction.
You may want to raise it with advertising standards or trading standards.
I think at best it is inappropriate, however, you could try removing the emotion from the situation, it'll help with your blood pressure!

Tight gits with the amount of interest they charge they could give everyone in the UK £20.....

Guess who did not get a £ then....
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

First time I've seen a complaint on here about getting free money, brilliant.

While people get into debt for a variety of reasons, it sounds like your wife may be very unhappy and somehow uses spending as a way of feeling better. You should aim to help her even without giving your "own" money.
