    Window->Freeze Panes

    If you want to freeze the top row (row 1), select cell A2 before you choose Freeze Panes.

    And if you want to freeze (eg) columns A and B as well as the top row for wide spreadsheets, select C2 (locks above and to the left of the selected cell).

    Thanks folks,

    I am creating a very basic accounting document
    Down col A is date (to be able to filter) and have created 2000 cells
    At the bottom of the table (2000 cells) I have a few windows with autosums to add up the different columns....is it possible to freeze these also that they are visible even at the top of the table?

    Would also ideally like to be able to see totals of filters? is this possible
    Already have April, May, June accounts listed and as expected the totals add up at the bottom of the table........phew
    What I would like to be able to do is see the totals for the various filters...can it be done..... EASILY?

    Regards

    Cunning tip from my systems development days.... put the totals at the top! (you'll be able to lock them there).

    Dunno about the filtered totals - will have a dig round when I get some free time.
  • If you only want to check the sum for your own records... then select the whole column and the sum value will show up in the calculator in the lower RH corner of your window. If you right click on this you can also change it so that the calculator calculates the average, maximum or counts your filtered selection.

    Hope this helps! I include a picture in case my description isn't clear enough!

    No it is not - but as suggested you could do some bits at the top...if you use sumif you could do some subtotals based on certain criteria (you dn't say what you are trying to subtotal)....feel free to PM me & arrange to send me a copy of the spreadsheet (excluding private info) & I could do some sumif's etc depending upon what you need....
    Currently on maternity leave but my job is basically setting up excel spreadsheets to enable our finance team to work more efficiently!!!!

    Hope the above is of some help.
