faulty trolly briefcase, I have to pay postage?

I bought a briefcase on wheels (a pull along one) for £50 plus £6 p&p off ebay.
Listed as brand new & perfect.
It arrived last week, sunday I emptied my old one & put into the new one ready for monday morning.
But the zip is faulty along one side, it splits open. The other side is fine.
I contacted the buyer they said to send back for a refund but I have to pay postage.
So I will be out of pocket £12 because they sent a faulty iteem. Doesn't seem fair?
I would send back but I dont think I should be out of pocket, or I would accept a partial refund & I could get it mended at the cobblers.
But its not perfect.
Any advice?
Seller just keeps saying, it was perfect when it left......
Well it was perfect, till you put something in it!!!!!

Open a case. You will be told to return but must send tracked. They will have to refund you in full, including the postage they charged you. They can not be forced to refund your return postage costs. If you used My Hermes it should be less than £6 depending on the weight of it. You could try ringing Ebay and moan about the return postage cost and they might provide you with a pre-paid return label.
Do not forget once you have your refund to leave feedback on the seller. Had I been the seller I would have asked for a photo of the zip and then refunded you without a return. I would not personally accept a partial refund. You paid £50 for something new and perfect so why should you now have to get it fixed?0 -

If it's a business seller you are entitled to all postage charges to be refunded. Contact Ebay and let them know that the seller is leaving you out of pocket through no fault of your own. They are likely to give you a return postage label.
I'd contact them by phone or through live help, be prepared to deal with an idiot but if you explain clearly enough you should get help. If you fail at the first attempt, try again..0 -
Is it a premium number?
Might cost more than £6 to call them & hang on forever.0 -
