    Stuff

As has been said already really - VW wont want to know as the car has never darkened their doors since new, so they wont be feeling an urge to make a good will gesture.

Supplying dealer is probably too far outside the SOGA.

Used car warranty is probably next to useless. At £729 the dealer probably got £229 commission, so thats £500 for three years warranty - thats about enough to pay someone to answer the warranty claim line and say its not covered.

If its a common fault i'd be checking the user forums and finding the most cost effective way of getting it fixed.

Amazing that the issues with the tsi engines are getting so little coverage.

VAG seem to have the Motoring Press on a very short leash.

For future reference i would never buy a newish car that has been serviced outside the dealer network.

Simply because it makes me think the owner was more interested in saving a few quid rather than taking decent care of a new car.

Maybe i am wasting money but that is how i look at it.

Especially with manufacturers like VAG as they will.use any excuse to get out of paying for a problem caused by poor engineering. Which is very common with VAG products.

But they have nice soft touch plastics.....

i must admit to preferring some of the older generation engines as they seem to be a lot "lower stress" from factory than some of the later engines where they're squeezing more and more power out of lower displacement engines.

my personal opinion aside, I would also agree that 40K miles is nowhere near enough for a modern engine to last and would be nowhere near what I would term "fair" wear and tear . OP- You've got my sympathy in this matter and I wish you luck in the battle with the warranty company.

Sidenote; anyone else noticed there's two threads on the first page of motoring that feature VAG products showing signs of premature wear?

Thanks mate much appreciated. I'm putting the pressure on the warranty company, mentioning the financial ombudsman etc, let's see how it pans out. One things for sure someone's got to pay for this mess and it's not me!

I think someone needs to contact Watchdog regarding VAG and specifically these 1.4 TSI engines.

    Make that someone yourself.

I'm assuming this is the same problematic engine the Fabia II VRS uses, I'm also surprised VW seem to have got away without a lot of negative publicity as it doesn't seem to be well known outside of VW forums. Hopefully the OP can make progress with the warranty company as it's clearly not a wear and tear issue.

    Quick update.

Had the car back, fell in love with it all over again albeit £1800 worse off (paid by credit card as warranty were being a-holes). Driving beautifully.

But it must go. Preferably stick with the Scirocco but just the 2.0ltr diesel.

Monday: start the argument with the warranty co. This should be fun... financial ombudsman may be getting a swift phone call.

Also have a complaint pending via my finance company against Availablecar. Hopefully they will come to an agreement for me to give the car back.

All this whilst we are buying our first house. I don't need this stress!

    Wish me luck!
