samsung s4 cracked screen and swollen battery

can anyone offer any help or advice.

have a 3 months old s4. it was from carphone warehouse. about early may i noticed a hairline crack in the screen going horizontally. there are drop marks on the corners, but none where the crack is as its across the middle. anyhow, i hadnt dropped the phone when the crack appeared. i noticed it when i took it out my pocket one day.

a few weeks ago the phone started randomly rebooting and dropping reception and just not functioning properly. I returned it to CPW and they sent it for repair but didnt look at it as said the warranty was void due to crack. On picking it up the sales advisor instore advised that i had a swollen battery (i had never had the back off since i bought it) and to buy a new one. on principle i refused to buy a new one seeing as this was a common fault with this device. after having a google i discovered many people have had the same fault with battery and screen crack. i contacted samsung and explained that i believed the crack was due to the battery as the back cover would not close after it being for repair and them having it off. so the swollen battery looks like it will have been pressing on the screen as had no where to go. The tracking details samsung provided werent working so i called them 4 days after i sent it and they said the repair centre had been trying to contact me, but i had no missed calls or voicemails. The repair centre wanted £150 to replace the screen as they wouldnt look at it otherwise. Although it was sent away mainly due to battery issue. i phoned samsung back and they are saying there is no way the swollen battery can damage the screen but they were then willing to send a new battery. where can i go from here? i still have a cracked screen that i believe is no fault of my own. i have no idea if my phone is even going to work when i get it back.

Pretty sure they won't do work on phones with compromised screens, in case they break further, possibly injure someone?

The drop marks won't help your case, as even though you claim you had no dropped ti when it cracked, the drop marks show the phone hasnt been protected or cared for to their standard.

the drop marks are no where near the crack.

That doesn't matter. Dropping the phone can stress the screen. Drop marks show the phone has been dropped.

I find it hard to imagine that the screen would crack before the back of the case just popped off/came apart.

Also possible that dropping it caused stress across the whole screen and introduced a vulnerability that worked open over time, so I can understand their reticence to accept responsibility.

My battery swelled before, I took it to the centre and they gave me a new one in half hour.

Samsung refuse warranty on screens that are damaged under their extra limited warranty .
The screen crack you want an engineers report to prove that this is not damage .Take that to the vendor and argue with them Samsung's strictly limited warranty refuses warranty on any screen damage .As the phone has been dropped i cannot see you getting a result but you can go to the small claims court . Who knows what chain of events dropping the phone has started . Like a windscreen that cracks six months after a stone chip .

i can live with 1 hairline crack, they are sending a replacement battery, will just need to wait on my phone being returned aswell. im just hoping its going to work and not continue to have reboot problems.

It's nothing to do with injuring someone, it's about the warranty and that they class any screen damage as accidental damage.

It used to be my job for a major UK mobile retailer.

You don't seem to think its your fault.

Think of it this way, if you loaned it to your friend in what you consider to be perfect condition, and it came back 2 weeks later with drop marks, cracked screen and a swollen battery.....
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Should do. Mine was fixed immediately with a new battery.
