Mac to TV?

Hello,

Someone has told me I can watch my Mac downloads on a TV? Does anyone know where I can get the cheapest cable needed?

Thanks, don't want to get ripped off.

What cable you need depends on what Mac you have. They've changed the video plug quite often so you'll need to tell us model and year or model number or something. Prices will start at £1 for an HDMI-HDMI cable...

Apple TV is the best option. Apple blocks most HDMI cables and video out.

I'd go for the apple tv also (there are 2 in the household and they're superb.) One of the ones we got was a cheaper £69 from amazon and a marginally different model number to the regular which ends in a/b I think but this is £99. Both work equally well so go for the cheaper.

Please, everyone, STOP suggesting AppleTV. We don't know what Mac OP owns, and only the very latest ones can output to AppleTV. You're confusing Macs with iPads. Same for HDMI. NOTHING gets blocked on an HDMI cable from, say a MacMini to a TV (outside of HDCP that applies to everything).

I bought a lead on ebay to go from my Macbook to an HDMI cable which I plug into my Toshiba TV, works well but I also need a lead to go from the Macbook headphone socket to the audio in on the TV.
Different Macbooks have different sockets so make sure you get the right lead, think the cost was under £10 for all the leads.
