I'm going to talk to the man's partner when he comes to fix the radiator,as I don't have the strength for any DIY and my husband is banned, because he once tried to adjust the filler on the loft tank and ended up snapping it off.0

It's a ten minute fix..
Even if the brass nut has somehow defied the laws of chemistry and actually rusted, by turning said nut it will unscrew the threaded part from the body of the mixer tap anyway.
I'm afraid you have a plumber who CBA.

I can live with that, as the consensus is that I don't need a new tap, then heads, so new bath tap, probably new bath, suite etc. ie no £100s.0
