Wood Worktop Question

I'm in the process of installing my kitchen, and have had the worktop fitted (27mm, 3-strip solid oak). I'm due to be getting the built-under oven and hob installed in a day or two, and was just wondering if I needed to fit some kind of moisture barrier to the underside of the worktop above the oven? The worktop has been sealed with a number of coats of worktop oil, as per instructions, but the worktop instructions made mention to fitting a moisture barrier "above appliances e.g. dishwasher etc." but doesn't specifically mention anything else ... hence my question about an oven?

The short answer is yes. See here for a fairly comprehensive guide on wooden worktop care.0

thanks for that. It doesn't list a built-under oven as requiring a moisture barrier above it.

If your worktop is being installed above kitchen appliances that produce a large amount of heat (washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers, boilers or built-in fridges & freezers), then a moisture barrier MUST be fixed to the underneath to prevent excessive heat or moisture penetrating the wood.

Contact the supplier/manufacturer of the worktop for their advice.0
