Fluorescent light faulty?

Need some electrical advice.. we've bought a Philips wall light with a fluorescent lightbulb to swap our current hallogen ones (we have 4 on the living room). We've installed it but when we turn it on the light flickers... is it possible there's something wrong with the wiring, or does this mean the lightbulb is faulty?
We had a dimmer for the halogens but we also swapped this for a normal switch in case the dimmer didn't work..
We bought it online so would like to make sure it's faulty before returning it..
Many thanks

If you've got rid of the dimmer, then it's probably the lamp.
Do you have any other fitting you can try it in, or is it an odd sized one?If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
I don't have any other fitting to try.. we do have another fluorescent Philips in the kitchen that we might be able to swap the lightbulb, just to test...0
