Can a social enterprise/non profit organisation provide digital editing service?

Hi all,
My friend and I are running a social enterprise which mainly promote uk music and painting.
For a funding purpose we would like to add digital editing service (video, etc...) to our activities but I am not sure that we can do this last activity through a social enterprise/non profit organisation.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Falkon

Not sure what your asking tbh, if it's your own material the why not. Or if someone gives you their material to edit then of course you can do it as you have their permission to do so.
If however you are talking about using other artists video to edit for your own gain without first asking the then no, you would fall foul of the PRS which requires large sums of money to the artists you want to use, royalties would need to be paid.0 -
In fact my worry is about the activities I can do under a non profit organisation or a social enterprise.
We would like to start with artists photo editing.0 -
What makes you think there are any limits on what you can do as a social enterprise? Surely it's the way you're set up and run which matters, not what you do?In fact my worry is about the activities I can do under a non profit organisation or a social enterprise.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Sorry but your thread makes no sense, do you want to edit other peoples work without asking them or not?0

It would appear it's a service that's offered amongst other services to clients, little like a non-profit label, so with their permission.
OP, there's no reason why not, but after 10 years in the music industry, I can't see why this can't (and shouldn't be) run for profit. We've built a profitable business from at first wanting to help a few people.💙💛 💔0 -

I fact the idea is to set up one ltd company for profit and a social enterprise for helping people (especially youth).0 -

I'm fussy about putting the business model we use anywhere, as noone has been able to successfully replicate the model we use yet, however if you can do most of the work yourself, then the initial focus should be to get the marketing costs back, and focus on profit after.
Very few companies are initially profitable, in fact we didn't become so until iTunes became popular in several countries.
75%ish of our work is with under-18s.💙💛 💔0 -
Why not just make it a an ordinary profit-making business. Then everything will uncomplicated and out in the open. You can always give the profit you make to charity. I am sure whatever charity you choose will be glad of it.0

Indeed the marketing is the key but I do not have a lot to invest in this last.CKhalvashi wrote: »I'm fussy about putting the business model we use anywhere, as noone has been able to successfully replicate the model we use yet, however if you can do most of the work yourself, then the initial focus should be to get the marketing costs back, and focus on profit after.
Certainly for video/music editing but I am not sure for photo editing (especially in fashion).CKhalvashi wrote: »75%ish of our work is with under-18s.0 -

I'll send you a PM in a moment with a few tips on there for marketing cheaply, and attempting to get decent returns.
It's not foolproof, and does take time, but may help you out a little.💙💛 💔0
