Monday 9th June - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:
Morning
Hope the sun is shining wherever you are! I had such a lovely day yesterday. We took dgd to the Open Farm day (seen via the newsletter :T) she was fascinated by the animals, she's 11 months now and views anything new with fascination and deep suspicion :rotfl:
I then went to see Cirque de Soleil at the 02 with ex-mil. Was fantastic! As she has a disability she get a free ticket for someone to help her and a reduction in parking. So the whole thing cost us £35 each
(I tried to get tickets for us last year and they were £120 each :eek:) She then treated me to dinner at Cafe Rouge :T lovely day, just what I needed! Perfect to have such a lovely relaxing day the day before an interview. Think I am going to turn my email & phone off this morning so I don't get anything at work come up that pees me off or stresses me out before the interview!
DFW things for today:
* [STRIKE]checked banking[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]shifted funds[/STRIKE]
*[STRIKE] ask dd for money she owes me[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]paid off a couple of cc spends[/STRIKE]
* made 1 x cc payment
* call Barclays re a complaint I made a few weeks ago. At the time as I was waiting for 66mins :eek: for them to deal with me the woman agreed to give me a refund for the cost of the call. When I received the letter it stated they had given me £25 as a good will gesture. Going to call & also request the cost of the call. Cheeky I know!
* check onepoll
* all meals from stores
*[STRIKE] fish out of freezer for dinner[/STRIKE]
* bake cake while oven on
* check in shed for stanley knife blades before I go and buy any!
* buy razor blades (if needed!) & go to Poundland to see if they have tent pegs while in town later
* hand deliver host family application while in town
* car checks while in town & get petrol as have a long distance to drive tomorrow
* re-write my supporting statement for a job application that closes today. I really want an interview and am not happy with how the statement flows. Hopefully I will be able to write it again and be happy. I have 4 hours in which to do it, so doable!
* job interview today and am wearing clothes already in cupboard rather than getting something new!
* opps think I'm going to be spending some time this morning preparing for interviewing *working* at home
* quick bath
* Portuguese homework/practice tonight with oh :A
* write & post letter. Use re-cycled stamp!
* Flylady kitchen. Have done a bit already
Ok think that's everything for me today! Hope you all have a gentle start to the weekend.

Yikes! I've been awake on and off since five too. Every year I threaten to buy blackout curtains and every year I find something else to spend my money on :rotfl:0

Had coffee and cereal at home rather than buy it at work.
Will come home for lunchtime for a toasted sandwich and bag of crisps to save myself a fiver.
Taking an electronic cigarette to work rather than tobacco as it's so much cheaper.
Leaving my wallet and all money at home so I am not tempted to go and spend any of it on things I don't need!
Dinner will be leftover chilli and pasta from my batch cooking on saturday.Debt free, moved, got new stuff for the new flat - got everything I wanted and need - now just saving.0 -

Good Morning Campers.....
Nice morning here, not the pee-down that was forecast so hoping to get lots of stuff done.
Today's list:
*Laundry overnight on cheap electricity. Done.
*Hang out to dry as good weather so far. Done.
*Update energy readings spreadsheet. Done.
*Water greenhouse veggies & stuff that's under polytunnels. Done.
*Rescue walking boots from festival mud....thought they might have just been to their last festival, but no, they have cleaned up ok & are drying outside. (DNMS - Yes, thanks, festival was great. We had tickets for Fri & Sun, but Sat was good too as we went to meet & reserve our new moggy at the local cat rescue :-)
*Festival picnic leftovers for our lunch today & some left for tomorrow's packed lunch too.
*Email to enquire about a subscription refund from magazine which has gone bust.
*Veggie garden maintenance jobs - sideshooting & tying in tomatoes, staking aubergines, sowing more radishes, etc.
*Plant out a lovely lot of free plants I was given last week by my Mum & a friend.
*Remembered to take pastry case out of freezer. I baked it the other week with leftover pastry. Will caramelise some onions later & do a warm squidgy quiche for dinner.
*Do surveys (have made a start, but there's too many. I can't waste all morning on the laptop, will check in for the rest of them later).
*Crack on with current knitting project - the tiny socks which I am aiming to sell - have got one to do to finish the current pair, then another pair from some fab bright random dyed leftover sock yarn - that's going to be one funky baby with feet in those!
Report on this weekend's Festival spending: We bought the tickets while still discounted in Feb & used our Co-op dividend money. Made lots of nice food to pack up & take with us to avoid spending on the food stalls. I made filled home-baked rolls, mini pizzas & foccaccia, red lentil & cheese squares & jammy buns. We also took crisps, a big bottle of cold squash & flasks of coffee. Our total spend was two ice creams each (it was hot!) & a coffee when ours ran out, plus 3 pints from the beer tent which came from this week's grocery underspend. I took a mag my Mum passed onto me plus a small portable item to knit for the present box. rest of time, we chilled out, soaked up some rays & enjoyed the music. This would have been a BIG spend for us in previous years, just shows what you can do when you have a big bathroom bill due in a few months' time........
OK, kettle on now, & a leftover jammy bun, then off to do those veggie garden jobs.
f xx2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Morning people (creeps back in sheepishly as didn't keep up good intentions last time)
Off work at the moment ....not good but taking time out to chill the mind...
So today's aims are
- NSD
- Forage all meals from cupboards
- Clean out fridge - I know I have stuff that I need to vacuum pack & freeze
- Check banks
- Need to investigate DH's shoes as he can only find 1 croc & has taken to wearing a pair of useless non supporting flip flop type things (useless for him as he needs a new knee & it's just a matter of time before he falls on these bl%%dy stupid shoes & really hurts himself):mad:
- Pay bills that have come in
- Post in sick line for work
- Check PC is clear of Gameover Zeus bug
- 2 lots of washing hanging out as we speak & another in machine to go out
- Garden work - needs done & is free therapy:p
- Check freepostcodelottery
- Adpoints
And I think that is more than enough for today - catch up later folks

Ooooh, Postie has just brought my credit card bill & the balance is a Big Fat ZERO!!! Even thought I only use credit cards now for planned spending (i.e mr f's card is only used for petrol so we can save points for M&S vouchers), it's still lovely to receive a bill with a zero balance. I suppose that as we only became debt-free in 2011 after overspending & failing to budget all our adult lives, a bill that says 'You need to pay 00:00' still feels like a relatively new & wondrous thing. Hope we never revert back to how we were. I don't think we will. We were talking about this the other day & both decided we have a lot more respect for ourselves now that we are not so silly with frittering money away.
Hope the laundry's drying, I think I've just heard some thunder.....2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
