Hi guys need some advice. Must of been about 5-6 months ago I contacted Barclays bank and HSBC to see if I was owed any money from PPI. I called Barclays and they told me I wasn't paying any PPI and I went into my local branch at HSBC and they also told me that I was not paying anything. So I started checking my statements again and on the HSBC one noticed I had some sort of insurance that I was paying for. About a month ago I contacted these PPI teams that try and help to see if you had any money. (I know I should not of used this company) They did all their searching and just got back to me recently to tell me i'm owed money from HSBC. I'm happy to get some money back, because I have been curious for a while now but also a bit angry because this company get a lot of the money for helping me. Surely I need to contact HSBC for telling me in the first place I had no PPI? This was the only reason why I contacted these claims guys. What should I do?

They did all their searching and just got back to me recently to tell me i'm owed money from HSBC.
Can you clarify what you mean by that? Have they put in a complaint on your behalf and HSBC responded to you telling you that they have upheld your complaint?
Or has the claims company just told you that you are owed money? What should I do?

The PPI was on a credit card. The claims guys got back to me and told me i'm owed money, and then during the same time HSBC made a call to me to tell me about my PPI,and that i was owed money. Now I knew from both teams that i had money waiting for me,but because i went through a company and signed documents i had to stay with them, otherwise to get out i would still have to pay a fine. I had a letter from these people that I had to sign so HSBC could release the money. I'm just waiting now for it to go in my bank. My point is,HSBC have mislead me twice now. Surely they can't do this!0

There is no such thing as money waiting for you. You put in a complaint and they investigate it. With many different products where PPI could apply, the bank staff may not always have access to info. For example, the banking staff rarely have access to credit card details. So, if you asked the banking staff if you had PPI, they wouldn't be able to check your credit card. if you asked the credit card staff, they wouldn't be able to tell on the banking side.
The claims company is required to tell you that you can complain free of charge. You could have done that. You obviously knew you were paying PPI. So, you havent really got any grounds for saying you had to use a claims company. HSBC didnt really mislead you. The problem is that your question was answered by bank staff with access to banking records and not credit card records. And as said, you knew you were paying it on the credit card so it is a non-issue.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
