These have started sprouting up all along the A68, usually replacing Gatso's :

It doesn't look like a standard Gatso, and it doesn't look like the Truvelo pictured here :

Any idea what it is ? More to the point, is it forward facing, rear facing only, or both ? I'm guessing it may be both, as both the front and back are painted bright yellow. On ordinary Gatso's only the back is yellow.

No, I haven't been flashed ! I travel the length of this road every week, twice a week, and have been doing for over 2 years, so I know the location of every single one of these blasted things ! Just curious.

They have appeared in Birmingham too, thought they were 'smart' cameras as this particular one is covering a bus lane too, probably even fire proof?

I'm really not sure, though it wouldn't surprise me. I couldn't find any similar pics on the web, even on that Speed Cameras website.

The A68 is absolutely littered with cameras, and usually they're on the "few and far between" overtaking opportunities. Though lots of them have been either burnt or cut off ( whoever did this - I salute you ! )

The odd thing is, on the Scottish side of the road, there's loads. Cross the border into England - nary a one. Same road, same speed limit. Safety cameras or revenue generators ? Call me an old cynic but .... :)

Have you checked for them here:

Check also for their Calibration Certificates if you know the exact location.

    That's the beastie ! Cheers :)

( Fireproof, yes. Resistant to angle grinders ? Where are you lads, whoever's been chopping off the others on that road ? Keep up the good work ! )
  • Its a Digital type approved Gatso speed camera.

it can be coverted to be used as a truvello for front facing images with a separate piece of equipment.

to see an example of this setup go google maps to A4058 (Gyfeillon Rd) Pontypridd, its location is approx 600 yards past hopkinstown signage heading out towards Porth, go to street view and its located on the foot path on the right hand side.
