in Credit cards
I'm trying to rebuild my credit after a few years of being young and silly. I applied for a Vanquis credit card to try improve my credit. I got a call from a number (020 8616 9730) today claiming to be Vanquis. This isn't the number on their website. They took all the details I already gave in my online application and they said I was accepted and would get my card within 10 days. He then put me through to a automated message service giving me some APR details etc.
Is this common practice and legit or have I been had by some third-party/scammer?
Never had anything like this happen before so I'm just a little curious/paranoid.
Thanks.

Well what happened to you is exactly what happened when I applied successfully for a Vanquis Visa. So I don't think this sounds like fraud.
It took exactly two weeks from their acceptance phone call to me receiving the PIN then exactly one further week to get the card.Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.0 -
Similar thing happened to meCredit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

I applied for a vanquis card online, minutes later a member of the team called me back, He confirmed my details and welcomed me to having a new credit card. If this number calls you, answer if youd like the card, its a fantastic rate, much like having an argos card! Only better for obvious reasons. The staff are Nice, seem to be UK based, and i had mine dellivered within 7 Working Days. Very pleased i answered this call0

And I wouldn't call the APR "great" either :rotfl:
It's an acceptable rate until your credit report is string enough to be able to get a better card.0 -
vanquis is a good helping card i think. I opened one in feb 14 and got upgraded to a 1000 limit from 500 in 4 months.
I have since applied and got a barclaycard initial and cap one card to help build up my credit this is only in 8 months and before i was trying for 12 months to just get one. Just be careful to make the payments as its hard to get the increases better cards etc if you dont clear it regular.0
