does the bank have right to charge at all?

hi ,been trying to get some feed back, but have been unsucessful up til now. ihave a debit card account with a multi function card , every transation made on it is autherised by the bank in one way or another, yet when i check my balance only half of my transactions are showing,it says i have more funds than i do ,then i get charged for taking money out.or the bank doesn't honour a payment due insuffient funds, they haven't paid out so why are they charging me? just want to know weather i should push for all of my claim on this basis?

  • it does not necessarily work that way. Some shops have floor limits which means the transaction is authorised without checking funds or at random. It is with smaller transactions at large shops like Tesco for example. The bank have to pay. The bank have the right to charge you for the work involved in stopping a DD/SO/Cheque but not to profit on that charge. The fact they refuse to reveal the true cost means you can claim everything. Your claim is based on the charges being profit making on the part of the bank. It is based on contract law. You win the bank loses.

thanks for that but,i still don't get why they would charge when they haven't paid do they have to send me a £30 letter ? normally the company the dd bounced on would tell you that they haven't recieved it.

thanks for that, but i still don't get why they send £30 letters, to tell you they didn't pay a dd, when the company it bounced on will write to you.
  • Some banks just do not care really. If you have been charged by companies as well, you do know you can claim those charges back as well, don't you?
    Same as bank charges.
