External letterbox advice

I am getting a new wood external installed and considering an external letterbox as opposed to a regular letterbox in the door itself.

I have never had one before and was wide ring of there is any advice with regards to durability, best brands etc. I also noticed 2 types: top loading and front loading. From what I have read, top loaders are less secure because people can stick their hand down. Is that true?

Thanks,
C

My parents have had a front loading one for years. It seems secure, but the only possible difficulty is that if something is very rigid then it might be hard to get it into the box without bending it or it having to stick out.

Having had mine screwdrivered open several times I would stick with the door one.
  • Good luck in finding one that is completely waterproof...... if you do let me know because I've never found one....... they all leak/let water in.. !!

We have a barbantia B110 and find it quite good. if it is a damp day then the letters will be damp (but not wet) and it seems quite good.

Thanks RTNI. I had been looking at that one in stainless steel and the B100. To me, keeping letters dry should be the simplest if things. Paying for something that doesn't perform this simple task seems kind of pointless, putting me off the whole external letterbox thing, along with the security issue. :-(
