need advice about claiming back bank charges

Hello everyone,

So this is my first time I've ever used a forum, but I need some advice so hear goes.

So my bank Natwest, changed my account to a gold account which I paid about £12.00 a month for, I was unsure of the dates I had this account and so I phoned the bank to ask for these details. Today I received a letter from them saying I had this account for several years and gave me approx dates (based on payments made from my account). They said they found no paperwork that I had signed for upgrading my account?I was only about 17 at the time and I think I just thought that's what happens to everyone. So now I'm not sure what to do? Can I try and claim the payments back? Also I had a LOT of bank charges in that time too, I was getting charges on charges, was financially struggling can I claim both back? I'm a student, a mum and about to spend my summer having major surgery so if it is possible the money could pay the bills!

Thanks in advance for advice.X
