Wow! I would have thought so. Might be OK if you're planning to be indoors all the time where there's air-conditioning. I used to work in Saudi, and coming out of the hospital entrance (out of the air-conditioning) it was like being hit by a blast from an oven-door.

There's also the humidity - close to the coast you get very high humidity and the mozzies bite!

I've been to the Middle East a couple of times during August, and yes, it's been hot, but I've always found the heat there very bearable. The holidays I've taken have involved much walking/sightseeing, and we've always managed fine.

It's not the same as when I've been to Europe or the Carribbean in the summer, which I tend to find very humid and stifling and almost unbearable at times.

I know it's obvious (!), but if you're going, make sure that you wear light clothing and cover up as much as you can, pack on the high factor suncream, and hats are an absolute MUST. It certainly is not the type of place that you would wish to take sun protection for granted. Also, drink plenty of water.

This is a useful link giving you temperatures for June last year. Click 'Next month' for July.

  • Thanks for the replies. I am quite well travelled and know what you mean about the sticky heat in the Carribbean. We went to Turkey last August, how do you think Dubai would compare?

I lived in Dubai and I also lived in other ME countries and found Dubai to be almost unbearable outside in Summer day time.We would start work before dawn and finish by 10 as it was too hot to to touch metal surfaces. The humidity is also very tiring.
Places away from the coast like Rhiadh and Al-Ain are more bearable as the humidity is lower.
It is fine if you go from hotel to taxi to shopping mall as they all have very good A/C and are lovely and cool.
Prices are lower in the Summer and the Malls often have shopping specials to attract tourists,as a lot of the locals go somwhere cooler

it is very very hot, you can't even go on the beach it is so hot. As above post said the only places you can go is where there is aircon like shopping centres etc. The best time is from dec to feb

I went there in early June, temperatures averaged at 47 degrees celsius in the afternoon. I didn't find it too humid - but we had just been to Hong Kong so maybe that's just comparative. I went to the pool bar and came back about five minutes later to find my sunglasses had cracked from the heat on the sun lounger. My boyfriend got sunstroke so make sure you wear a hat!!!

I,ve been in June last year and yes it's hot but if you are by the pool and take regular dips it's ok . I really dont like the heat at all (air conditioning in my bedroom in uk !) but you are not often outside in the heat in Dubai as you move from a/c hotel to a/c minibus to a/c shopping mall so you dont feel it so much.
Would recomend the Jumeriah beach hotel, excellent service and rooms, also stayed at the Burj Al Arab but liked the Jumeriah better despite the vast difference in price!
Hope you enjoy Dubai ..we did.
